The Special Needs House

Welcome to our house rehabilitation adventure in Medford, MA. After paying sky high rent for two years, we decided to take the plunge back into home ownership. This is no small task here on the East Coast. After a lengthy search and one misfire, we located this homely little house that needs ALOT of TLC. It is relatively close to Lorna's work, was reasonably priced (for the east coast) and the worst house in the neighborhood...meeting all of our top objectives. Larry has gained an instant job and is hard at work transforming this 1936 gem. Check back often to see the progress.

Foundation

With threats of flash flooding, Larry took time out to do some additional work around the foundation.  I understand that dry basements in New England are as scarce as affordable housing.  We'll see if our next purchase will need to be a sump pump:(

Demolition Continues

nearing capacity
Tomorrow is the date Larry targeted for completion of the demolition. Still a bit more to do, but good progress is being made.

Surprises

Some surprises are nice, like discovering there was some blown in insulation in the walls.  Others, not so nice, like uncovering rotted out studs that had been placed right on the ground in the basement. And, sink holes right next to the foundation. Never fear....Lare Bear to the rescue! Nothing like a nice rainstorm to expose the warts, I mean wonders of home ownership!

Move-in Ready

Some of you have asked what "move in ready" means.  We have defined this as all of the interior space with the exception of the back "sun room" and the back half bathroom.  So, this would include completion of an additional bathroom upstairs and renovation of the old one. New windows and heating/cooling system will be installed.  All the floors, walls, ceiling, trim, interior doors and kitchen space. It does not include the basement or exterior painting.  Think we'll make it??
